Summer Workwear Guide

The weather is heating up but it’s not quiiiite time for summer frocks, playsuits and ‘kinis all day erryday since we’ve still gotta be ‘office appropriate’ during the week- what’s a working gal to do?!

Read on for tips to make the work-drobe warmer weather winning (and apologies for the lame attempt at alliteration…

1. (material) Labels matter:

Y’all know I’m not fussed about brand labels but when it comes to summer workwear (or summer in general) double check the material composition and try to go for natural, breathable options to keep you cool through the day.

Look for things like 100% cotton, linen, silk or even chambray/tencel for a touch of denim without the heavy material. Manmade fabrics like rayon also work but not as moisture wicking as cotton so best for dry heat environments.

Where to buy:

Glassons have a whole linen range which is fantastic. It’s no secret I love a blazer and a linen one (and sleeveless ones!) means I can also cover up a bit when wearing camis to the office (as styled in the outfit above). I reckon I’ll be back for the matching pants soon!

Target have you covered for chambray/tencel pieces (who remembers the tencel jeans craze circa ’94?!) as well as some linen and cotton for good measure. I’ve linked my faves herehere, here , here and here!

Hit up Uniqlo for cotton and rayon– they do a whole range of shirts and skirt and pants options as well.

If you’re after a cruelty-free silk shirt Aussie label The Fable specialises in just that! I literally just heard about them today and after some solid research (Insta-stalking) I’ll definitely be getting one- watch this space!

2. Cut and colour

This seems obvious but always good to keep front of mind when shopping for summer: the looser/roomier the fit the better- especially of the material is more of a blend or synthetic.  I sometimes size up with my shirts/tops and keep them light in colour, and mostly swap tapered pants for culottes and midi skirts and fitted frocks for shift and skater dresses.

With these loose silhouettes going on I like to add some shape to the looks with either a belt, or opting for high waited pants/skirts I can tuck my top into.

Where to buy:

Again, Glassons and Uniqlo have some great pieces in store at the moment, as does The Iconic and Decjuba. I’ve rounded up a whole bunch of current pieces that fit the ‘summer workwear-able’ bill below- which ones will you be stocking up on?
